Just in case you are within striking distance of the town during November here are details for our first fundraising event of the winter.
This event was the initiated by Frank Stevens - not yet a member, but someone who appreciates our activities and offered his services when we met by chance in the museum recently.
His father John Gyles (who used to teach me woodwork up at St.Ives Secondary School) was on the scene with his camera during the grounding of HMS Wave back in 1952 (featured in the poster). The resulting footage, which we shall see, was used by the BBC for their coverage of the event and has become an iconic document.
Our chairman, Harry Isaacs has secured the Council Chamber for us which lends a certain kudos to the event and the ' stamp of approval' of the Town Council. This novel venue, together with the massive paintings of fishing scenes on the staircase, will be an additional draw .
Please contact me if you would like to reserve a ticket (only £5).
Looking forward to seeing you there!
