SCULLY DAY 2 Saturday 14th May
Another
successful Scully Day organised by
members of the St.Ives Jumbo Association was
held in the harbour last Saturday. Once again, punts,
dinghies and teachers were on hand to provide complete
novices with the opportunity to learn how to propel themselves with a single oar over the stern.
As the tide filled the harbour, the weather steadily improved so for those
who tried their hand at scullying back in February, a
second attempt in May in beautiful sunshine and with warmer water left them
asking for more!
Both Jumbos were included this time.
At over 20ft and propelled with a 13ft scully oar,
these boats presented a greater challenge for the dinghy graduates. Expert
tuition was provided by new local members, Glenn Farrell and Phil Roach
who made skillful manoeuvring look easy.
Bringing the Jumbos and the other
craft to the beach for boarding gave everyone a chance to get a
close up view of the boats afloat which attracted a small crowd
of onlookers.
The Association's stand on the Old
Slipway had a busy day. Seven new members signed up and a total of £183.00 was
raised for the Association.
Once again, the Association would
like to thank everyone who helped to make the day such a
success.
